Obama Wants Internet Security Czar

President Barack Obama wants to ramp-up Internet security with the establishment of a czar to oversee privacy. The administration plans a stronger legal effort to protect Internet privacy — including new laws and creation of a new position to oversee the effort, people familiar with the situation tell The Wall Street Journal.

A report scheduled to be issued by the Commerce Department in coming weeks should outline the strategy, the sources says. But the report hasn’t been finalized yet.

The White House has created a special task force to turn the Commerce Department suggestions into policy, the sources say.

That group was established three weeks ago and is headed by Cameron Kerry, Commerce Department general counsel and brother of Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., and Christopher Schroeder, assistant attorney general for the Justice Department.

I don’t know about you, but I am growing increasingly tired of Mr. Obama throwing un-vetted (or poorly vetted, let’s not forget the last few) individuals at problems that should be handled by the appointed and Congressionally confirmed members of his Cabinet.

The country doesn’t need an Internet Privacy Czar Mr. Obama, this job should and can be handled by the Office of Infrastructure Protection, part of the Cybersecurity Division of the Department of Homeland Security.  At least this department has Congressional Oversight, not to mention a Cabinet level officer who can be held accountable.

Stop wasting OUR money!

Thanks for the welcome back, Jimr. I really couldn’t comment on all that techno-jazz you’ve been posting you know…Too stupid about the whole subject! [Sigh]…

I do check your blog daily and comment when I have something to add. Which is usually something couched in sarcastic wit as you can see.

I do enjoy reading your postings from the “Left Coast” written by someone who seems to be at odds with the prevailing “winds” in that location…Ha ha!

Libby!  Great to hear from you!

Ha-ha, I don’t expect that after 720 days there will be no more Czars or no more wasting of money; however, it’s nice to dream [:)]

Just thought I’d add my two cents in hopes of cheering you up, Jimr:

In less than 720 days there will be no more “Wasting of OUR money” and no more “Czars”. There IS a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! Now doesn’t that make you feel better? [chuckles].

Am I the only one who finds something oddly Orwellian about a government agency that must persue something to protect the privacy of those being persued by the government?
